    Kriegsmarine Sailor Cap(Tellermütze)with white top

Hello, everyone! I'd like to share with you a new item I just got these two days: Sailor Cap (Mannschaftsmutze-tellermutze) and the process of grooming Tellermutze.

This is a second version of the Cockade, with the eagle's wings longer and narrower.
Loops on both sides are intact.

Unfortunately one of the loops in the back is broken.
image_4778434.jpg Brown leadther sweatband inside the cap. Intact without any cracking.
    image_4778435.jpg
And the hat size "58" mark.

This is the picture of unpacking when I received it. As you can see, the hat caved in and became shapeless.

And the hat wall becomes disorganized. E35C125A-EE09-4E76-95DD-83249D24DE2D.jpeg

Generally, the inside of the hat wall will be filled with something like plastic pieces or cardboard to prevent the hat from getting out of shape. Just like the illustrations in the book. (Image taken from Deutsche Kriegsmarie,Insignias and Equipment of the German Navy 1933-1945)

But I found that my hat was supported only by a trapezoidal piece of plastic in the front, but nowhere else. It is not clear whether it was removed artificially, or over time aging and fragmentation. Thanks!I was very lucky to found it!You know, big size sailor hats aren't easy to find these days. Most of them are very small.

So I cut it out of cardboard and put it inside the hat wall to make it even. 603C79B7-111E-44B8-B40A-8EDEA77424D8.jpeg 2731194E-ACEA-4A3C-9ABE-A8F63212CD2E.jpeg D4A526DA-CAF2-40BF-BD8C-D515FB29084F.jpeg If you encounter the same problem, you can also cut out the appropriate size of cardboard or plastic pieces to fill. But pay attention to size and thickness. The cardboard I chose in the picture is too thick to fit on the hat wall properly. But at least it provides some support.

After that, I chose two Cap tops that fit the size 56 caps.

As the original white Cap top is very small, you can compare it from the picture below. On the right is the original white Cap top, and on the left is a navy blue Cap top in the size of 56.

CC215C07-6206-46B4-9E24-80AC426B7AAD.jpeg As I said, this sailerCap is 58. When I bought it, seller said it was about 56-57 in size. I didn't know that before ... So I moistened the inside edge of captop with water and stretched it a little bit. It failed many times, but it was successfully assembled, and the results look good.

Finish with Band Tallies and Cockade!
