What type of Cartridges are these?

    Hello All,

Picked up a few boxes of the following cartridges. Can someone please decipher for me what I have and offer me an explanation of the abbreviations/codes?

    Thank you very much!

The sS German standard s.S. Patrone - schweres Spitzgeschoß— "heavy pointed bullet"

      Standard 8mm Mauser (7,92x57mm) rifle ammunition - yours is pre-war - 1934 I believe.

A boffin will give you the factory, batch and date as well as the load, primer and case composition from that label.

        I don't think I have seen a 1934 dated 8mm box before. Nice!

Thanks all for the info. I ended up with a half dozen of the boxes (and ammo). Here is a picture of the headstamps for the 1934 rounds:

There was also a 1938 box in the mix. Rounds have red sealed primers which I believe indicate tracer rounds: S.m.K. L'spur - Spitzgeschoß mit Kern Leuchtspur ("spitzer with core tracer"):

The red color indicate that they are armor piercing bullets, S.m.K. The bullet should be black in the tip, that is indicating tracers.

                  Nice boxes.
