    Stamps on a Carcano Terni

    Hi guys,

    Anyone familiar with these stamps on this Italian Carbine?
    its WW-2 I guess and imported to the UK?

    You are correct in that they are UK commercial proofs which indicate that it was tested for domestic sale. My thought is that it was someone's personal rifle and not part of a shipment. Interesting rifle!

        Unless a country had a recripocal gun proof law with England, any firearm not made in England had to be proofed before being sold commercially. The rifle may have been bought by a British arms dealer and brought back to England before sale.

        During WWII the U.S. sent 1515 Colt Model 1911A1 pistols to Canada under Lend-Lease. After WWII Canada sold the pistols to a British arms dealer who shippped them back to England. They were commercially proofed and sent to the U.S. for sale.

        The proofs are post 1954.
