    I believe I have seen similar boxes in a StuG III...but not sure, and I don't have access to my files right now...:o(

      I think the box on the left is for the egg-shaped grenades.

        That would sound reasonable, as stick grenades would be difficult to remove from there. Here, I couldn't get acces to my files but to a thread about German tanks in Spain. See the pic. It is the StuG III in Cartagena Military Museum.

          Good find on the StuG, that definitely looks like it.
          Egg grenades could be a possibility.
