    Photos of Camo Rank Insignia

    Hello,

I have always liked the German Army's/Waffen-SS's use of the rank insignia designed for the camouflage uniforms. I don't recall seeing a thread on this topic before?

Would like to see some of the members post photos showing examples in wear. There were two different styles, embroidered and printed. It would be nice to see photos of both styles, as well as different ranks. There were three different rank groups for the insignia as well - NCO, Offz., and General's.

    Many Thanks,
    John

Great idea John -- You know I have a weakspot for those rank insignias...

    Generaloberst Dietl.

SS-Obergruppenführer und Panzer-General der Waffen-SS Sepp Dietrich. (Second from right)

This patch or the one from the other sleeve is in my collection. Dietrich kept it after his promotion to Oberst-Gruppenführer. After the war he gave it to a fellow comrade as a token of friendship. It then passed on to me for the same reasons.

Far right: Obersturmbannführer Kurt "Panzer" Meyer wearing respective rank insignia on his custom tailored camo jacket.

Looking forward to seeing more rank insignia in wear!

      Cheers,
      Markus

Great photos Markus - thanks for posting. The use of the camo rank insignia during the Normandy campaign was ubiquitous.

Does anyone have a nice shot of a General wearing the printed style (very rare)?

        Best,
        John

Here is a well-known photo of Josef Kramer, the Commandant of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, wearing a printed example.

Do you have more information about Eugen Kastner?
                  Thanks!

I have large feldpost estate of his but no personal files or whatever. If I read his feldposts I may get much information but I don't have time right now.

He was an early SA member, belonged to GR316 when he was in Wolchow as Leutnant. That's all I know for now. I would appreciate any input.
