          Also here:-

          http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...onen/376ID.htm

(I use Google Translate.) There will be more information in the sub-unit sections. Often the Lexikon mentions Unit histories, but it doesn't show one here sadly.

          Regards, Paul

Here is the movement of the 376ID from November 1942 to January 11, 1943 - eventually the remnants of the Division surrendered with elements of the 3.ID and 371.ID in the basement of the Kaufhaus am Roten Platz.

Hello to all ;a little more...........................................

              Advance towards the Don.

Immediately after the Battle of Kalach and the Battle of Volkhansk, the 6th Army grouped north to attack on August 15 in the Little Don bend. As with Kalatsch, this battle was also given excellent support by the VIII. Air Corps. The fight made tough demands on the German troops and also brought considerable losses.

              August 16, 1942 Geheime Kommandosache

Intentions of the 6th Army after clearing the Don bend.

Persistent defense of the area around Stalingrad by the Russians, with resistance in the front and counter-attacks from the north, is expected in spite of the annihilation attacks received west of the Don. Heights on the east bank of the Don fully developed and occupied by the enemy. There are still no clues for enemy division and strength.

              Army Intent:
Don is overcome between Peskowatka and Ostrowskij, emphasis on both sides of Wertjatschij. To build the bridgehead, the LI.AK was to be subordinated to the XIV.Pz.K. and formed a Group Wietersheim. After winning the bridgehead, advance with fast formations along the land bridge to the Volga, just north of Stalingrad. Securing of the advance in the north flank by VIII.AK., in the south flank by LI.AK.

Rolling up the area eastwards Kalatsch takes place in a second phase from the northeast in cooperation with 4. Pz.Armee and 71.ID.

              In detail:
              XXIV.Pz.K .....................
              XIV.AK .........................
              LI.AK ...........................
              VIII.AK .......................
              XI.AK.

              (100. Jäg.Div. and 376. ID) secures the army's northern flank in the section of the Don Ilowlja estuary - Melo-Logowskij (exclusively) and assembles 22. Panzer Div. at the disposal of the army in the area around Sswechnikow.

                Advance towards the Don.

On August 18, 1942, the Russian force group west of Katschalinskaya was included.

The XI.AK. with its 100. Jäg.Div. and 376. ID still secures the army's northern flank. The 376. ID against Kremenskaja
