I have never seen one. Would be odd anyway, as the HG cufftitle (like other unit CTs) was only worn while serving in a HG formation.

Wouldn't this be a case where he'd be wearing one? His grave is on the left.

Well Bob, once he transferred from FJR5 in the fall of 1942 to the Jäger Regiment HG and ended up in Tunisia, was he a FJ or a HG member? The answer was he was then technically a HG member. However, he operated, was outfitted, and appeared as a FJ.

That scenario was very unique, as about 5,000 FJs were transferred that fall. To a newly formed HG Division. When did they get HG cufftitles? Spring of 1943?

I once owned a document grouping to a FJ who had both units listed on awards from the same Tunisian timeframe.

In 1937 there existed the IV. Fallschirmschutzen Bataillon RGG; the cufftile worn by these Fallschirmjagers would have read "General Goring". Of course, this unit formed Fallschirmjager Rgt. 1 in 1938.

I found it interesting to read in Greg Way’s recent book ( page 219) that Erwin Bauer of FJR5 in Tunisia said that although his company got young replacements for casualties in from the HG Division , he had no knowledge at the time of the redesignation of his regiment into the HGD, nor of the issue of the HG cuff title.

Anand, thanks for adding this. Makes perfect sense and supports what I was saying. It didn't matter to the troops, even if they would have known. They considered themselves to be FJs. Obviously in the early months of 1943 there were HG troops wearing HG CTs on their tropical tunics, but the "former" FJs were either wearing smocks or just tropical shirts.

That must be it Willi, it was just a “on paper” designation, immaterial to those at the front at Company level....the “worms eye view” ....

                    Thanks for all the input.

So a Hermann Göring cuff title can not really be used for display in connection with FJ, or? I'm thinking of the 1st Fallschirm-Panzer Division Hermann Göring They must have had the cuff title?

As for FJ’s They probably didn’t , it was just a rather grandiose name for the Division...
                      very Goring-esque.

Just my impression M, I’d like to be wrong on this, you’d think there may be a rare instance of a para transferring over and maybe a studio pic wearing a jump badge and a cuff title out there ....I hope so anyway ....

                            Hi Willi,

Thought same until I came across a photo recently of a FJR 5 officer wearing the Herman Göring cufftitle (in Tunisia). So there is evidence that FJ did wear the cufftitle within the ranks of the HG Division, perhaps more common with officer ranks.

                            Regards,

                            Mike
