Japan Flag (or other ?) for review

    Hello gentlemen,

I bought this Japanese flag a few years ago in New York. I bought it without knowing its origin and its meaning. Does anyone know what this flag corresponds to?

Thanks a lot for your help.

    Anton

      Mr. Chen's translation is correct.

However, this is a modern souvenir made probably in the USA ... using "Oriental-style" strokes. The kanji are correct ... just the way of the strokes is strongly reminiscent of the 1940s~60 "Oriental" writing like below.

Thank you chen for your translation

Thank you GHP too for your analysis. I'm so disappointed...
Last question (neophyte about Japanese souvenirs): the flag is an imperial flag used until 1945, and the flag does not shine in blue light (ultraviolet), such objects could be produced between 1945 and 1960? as fake souvenirs?

        Thanks again for your epertise.

I think I will now refrain from buying Japanese items without basic research!

Yes. Unfortunately collecting Japanese items can be a difficult subject without lots of research. If you find something interesting, post an image here and you'll get comments from long-time collectors.
