    Shako plume?

    Hi all,

please help me with identification of this item. Is it a shako plume? What army? What unit?

    Any identification help welcome.

    Best regards

The central device on the plume holder is, I'm pretty sure, the Japanese Imperial chrysanthemum. So, Japanese but I've no idea what period - officers seem to have been wearing feather plumes in the 1886 pattern uniform.

        Hi Peter,

thanks, are you sure it is Japanese?

I see corn and flower in the middle. I thought it is something european, maybe Austro-Hungarian, but not sure exactly.

        Any more ideas welcome.

        Best regards

Not so sure now that I've looked again. I must admit that the wheat stems around the sunflower/chrysanthemum do look more Eastern European. Also, that fact that it doesn't seem to match any Japanese plume I can find probably means I'm wrong. Sorry to give you a false lead!
