    Medical Patch

As you know, I tinker around the edge of actually collecting
a physical item these days. I took a stab at this at $15, which
is hardly a great financial risk. I was slightly off put by the weird
wavy 'rope' lettering, but based on a few past sales, seems the
guy who made these early ones, did them pretty much the same.
Not with me yet, so I can not tell if it has been used. (my collecting OCD)
But it has been damp, so worse case, dontation to the Walter Reed Archives.

Take a look at the illustrations via this link. I tip my hat to the ground
pounders, who had to dodge bomb. bullet, bobby trap, whilst putting up with
some of this. Also has a sort of link to Special Forces.
    Stay Well,
    John.

I personally think they are fake.

I bought one of them about a year or so ago on Ebay because the pictures were just bad enough it had a chance.

When it arrived it was identical to the one you have shown.

I think it was $20.00 so I wasn't overly hurt by it, but the stitching is wrong, the background material is wrong and the size of the patch is wrong.

Please be sure and post pictures once it arrives. I see the seller is using the exact same photos for a current auction. It will be interesting to see if he sends you the actual patch shown in the listing you purchased, or if he switched out out with something different...

      GREAT pocket hanger photo!!

        Thanks Guys,
My gut did tell me as such, confirmed if there are more floating about.
Like Bob, not a great loss to learn something for sure and get it out here for everyone
        to add to their knowledge.
I will be sure to scan every which way, as suggested.
        Cheers,
        John.

There was some Walter Reed research stuff going on in 5th Group.

There was a Parasitology research team attached to my camp for a time.
They were researching and treating the high instances of Hookworm and Ascaris among locals and our strike force.

They were attached to 5th Group and wore normal insignia.
          No special patches.
          Time period late 68-mid 69.

There was a SF qualified MD and a SF qualified Parasitologist. Both Captains.

They had a couple of non qualified EM assistants who were specialists.

          Just what I saw.

Here is the one I received.

Way too clunky to be Vietnamese made, and stitching is way too thick.

              Cheers Bob,
Seems a bizarre one to fake and I wonder who is making the money at $12.99.
Not the Viets I suppose, still a degree of skill, compared with some that appear on ebay.
              Thanks for posting.

John- When I bought mine it was around $45-50, can't remember, but it was a bargain compared to what an original sells for.

                  John.
Patches can be made super cheap, I think. We had the ones we wore made locally in Korea when I was stationed there. Retail was $3 a patch.

Patch arrived and is the one in the auction.
I concur with what Bob said, looks used but has never been sewn on.
A reasonable effort and much like it would have looked like.
I usually slice & dice these, or give to a charity shop.
However, this time I have made little display and will donate to the WR museum.
Along with a notation, that although it is recently made item, it is a fair reflection
of what is in the hanger. Their choice if they display, might just end up in a
drawer, with a bunch of others.
