    In Honor of My Father

    UPDATE WITH MORE PHOTOS

Last week I had a fantastic time in preparing a tribute to my father, Col. Vedder B. Driscoll. My father spent his entire life defending this great nation from the time he graduated high school and entering the Army at age 18, fighting for the 87th Acorn Division in WWII through the end of the war in Germany, becoming a commissioned officer upon graduating college, serving in Korea, and again in Viet Nam during the TET Offense from '67- '69. My father finally retired in 1981 as the Senior Colonel of the Army but passed away suddenly only 1 1/2 years later. He was a highly decorated officer and collected many items which I am delighted to preserve.

Here are photos of my tribute showing some of the medals and awards bestowed upon him during his 38 1/2 years of service.

This photo shows the grouping of my work and adorns the wall of my office where I keep all my military collectables.

This framing depicts the enlisted years; specifically his years fighting in Germany. The purple heart was awarded from his injuries during the siege of Setz, Belgium in Jan 1945. The inscription states this on the reverse which I will show in later photo.

This frame is a compilation of the many units and the associated crests he was assigned to as well as his ribbon and medal bars. I am repairing the ribbon bar at this juncture which is why it looks incomplete.

What a terrific letter. To have received this is more meaningful than receiving a medal. Awesome.

You must be very proud, and rightly so.

A great tribute to your father.
