    I guess I should have left this one alone. This is why proper restoration is necessary.

    Regarding the issue that started this Thread - frayed collars and cuffs don't necessarily require mending as that is first a sign of period field use, and it should not degrade any further. Mending it will alter it from its wartime appearance.

    The internal stitching deterioration can be halted through the inconspicuous addition of a couple of tack threads to anchor the lining in the weak spots. Use period cotton thread of the same color and just the minimal stitches necessary in the original stitch holes if possible.
