Default "Stalingrad" PAB

I am not familiar with this badge and I have not seen one in the books. Is this similar to the black wound badges supposedly found at Stalingrad that were made out of bakelite?

Any evidence these were really from Stalingrad? Any surviving vets with this badge ever been encountered? Any wounded guys coming out of the pocket with this type of badge? Any pics of the dig when these were found?

Or is this just a nice story to sell cast fakes of an F&CL PAB??

Expensive for a turd of a looking fake badge. I guess all one is paying for is the story behind it.

Andy
The soldiers of the 6th army probably had other things on their mind than making cast fakes

I have been doing this for about 40 years and bought a lot from vets and hotel buys over the years, several of my friends have done many hotel buys too. I have never seen or heard of such a thing but for kicks, I will ask around.

Gentlemen, if You havent seen something, doesnt mean its fake.

If You are waiting for a photo of it in wear, I doubt You will ever see one, considering the rarity of item. Thats why it will raise doubts (as well as the bakelite wound badges etc.). Probably there would never be 100% evidence (unless You go digging in Volgograd and find it Yourself), but I am with Philippe de Bock on this - "There is more speaking for this strange PAB then against it."

These badges are mostly dug up in the "Stalingrad boiler". I personally did not dig these badges out of the ground, but I believe the people who dug them out, I have no reason not to believe them. I hold the badges in my hands and I like them. And you decide yourself whether they like you or not.

One thing I will say and it is sad but reality. I have owned many items over the years that are real and that is all there is to it. However, they are not believed by the masses so go under the category of "Real but not sellable". One example many of you will know is the die flawed, I think now called "A" frame S+L RKs. For decades they were real, countless crosses came from vets with nice stories that were unquestionable. Since one member here was "popular" and had never owned one, all of a sudden they were considered fake for a few years. Now they are real again, similar on Land custom daggers with the scabbard line going all the way around the scabbard. Many examples but...... for now at least, not sellable.
