Default Gendarm or Feldgendarm officers overcoat

Civilian Gendarm or Heer Feldgendarm officers overcoat.
Interesting coat which I obtained for $350.

It was sold to me as a gendarm (civilian police) overcoat as the wool is that color... but it clearly has military style SUBDUED (MATT) military Lieutenant boards and all green collar. The civilian police/gendarme boards (which are also orange backed also) would have shiny tops...not the case here...

When the military mobilized many civilian cops were pressed into military MP service (often traffic control duties, managing all the columns of Blitzkrieg ready troopers heading towards their jump off points).
These drafted cops in 1939/40 would often wear a mix of civilian polizei and Wehrmacht gear. There are several threads on this topic showing examples.

Could this garment represent something like that? A polizei green wool mantel/overcoat with Heer subdued (non shiny) military shoulderboards...

Yes indeed a Polizei grun gendarm (civilian) police mantel with shiny silver buttons HOWEVER the boards are military police subdued braid...
So was the coat used in the military Feldgendarmerie (transfer from zivil Polizei to MP duty (military Feldgendarmerie polizei)
and the officer simply kept his coat (eigentumstuck) and added non shiny military boards?
That is the question...which is why I posted this in the military (Heer) section...not civilian polizei…

Possible option. Personally I vote for Gendarmerie

Regular Gendarms on active service in occupied areas wore subdued insignia as well as Feldgendarms. It looks like a regular Gendarmerie coat to me. A nice one.

Yes SchuPo served outside of the Reich and behind the front but also these city cops? Why would they have subdued insignia? They are not auxiliary Wehrmacht...

Hi Nick, most definitely also Gendarmerie was deployed in action outside the Reich and involved in Bandenbekämpfung for example.

IMO this is a standard Gendarmerie coat and not FG. Besides, there was also something as personal taste of course, this officer just might simply have preferred the subdued ones?
