Default SA kepi information needed please.

Hello.

I'm afraid I don't have photos, and I know this stops a clear identifacation from being made. But, I have seen an SA man's (not officer) kepi for sale, which looks good. I don't know the year.

I've trawled through my reference books, and am stumped. The kepi in question has a black leather chin strap rather than brown, which I can only find being worn by officers.

The button is silver.

The eagle is gold with a black swastika.

The top of the kepi is blue.

Any help on whether it's a good 'un or not is appreciated,
Chris.

I believe that none of the early SA/SS party eagle were ever period done in gold (brass) with the painted swastica. This point alone would make me steer clear of the rest of the kepi. (if the boobs are fake who knows what might be under the skirt?)

There are a number of fake kepis out there that started popping up about 20 years ago. The eagle on all kepis, officers or enlisted, should be silver and the chinstraps should be brown. Only the Stabschef wore a gold eagle, and not for very long. It's possible that someone changed or replaced the insignia and chinstrap at some point with the wrong types, but the kepi itself would need to be scrutinized.

I began to have doubts when researching with the black leather chinstrap, and your help has confirmed them. I'm glad I wasn't as spontanious as usual when buying!

Thanks very much indeed.

Chris.
