Transportation Distinguished Service Medal

Hi all,

This one has always puzzled me. I can't find this one for sale at all .... it is the "Transportation Distinguished Service Medal" found in the Book "A Comprehensive Guide to All United States Military Medals 1939 to Present" page 19.

Does anyone know if this is just a very rare medal OR is it one of those that is NOT for general sale? Thanks.

It's a fairly rare medal. Only a limited number were made since it was awarded only to the commandant of the Coast Guard. When it first came out, a few sold in the $600 range and those were soaked up in the market fairly quickly.

With the Coast Guard move out of the Department of Transportation, the medal is probably no longer awarded.

ok. Thanks Jeff. That's probably why Government Manufacturers dont make it anymore.
