Joerg...with your brighter picture we should be able to get a consensus!
The symmetry I look for at the edging ^^^^^^^^^^^ should be like this this....all the same height, thickness etc.
Your ribbon shows high and low spots and generally flat areas in the length shown.

1957 ribbons can also have a very well scalloped border, but glow under UV light. I think it is usefull to look at the actual thread weave under high magnification, and a deffinite difference can be seen in pre '45 ribbon to '57 issue ribbon. The first pic. here shows pre '45 ribbon. Notice how each oval-shaped stitch is well compacted, and the line separating the two threads in each oval is, if visible, straight down the centre to give a 'coffee bean' appearance to the stitch...........

where-as in non-original ribbons, the individual threads that make up each oval stitch are twisted together, and the divide between each thread does not run straight up-and-down the oval stitch, but spirals...........

Here is a nicely scalloped border.....on an early 1957 ribbon (well, it came on an early '57 cross).

Quite the showoff with that new cam!!!
Clearly Joerg's ribbon is NOT finely scalloped and to date I've not seen period ribbon from in the IC series that wasn't.

Sorry, I could not help myself . Dave, do you think this thread weave pattern is significant, or is it irrelevant??

I don't see the logic...just because you haven't seen it, then it's fake?

Harry, I sure do!! The post war rebuilding of German industry brought in American etc. technology, machines and methods of manufacturing.....the weaving of ribbon however small in comparison I'm sure underwent changes along with everything else...
For those guys who are not tactile nor have handled a few bits of original ribbon pictures like these are very important

.....Thanks Richard for your typical post! Invariably looking for an argument but never contributing!
Please post some nice pictures of your RK ribbons and maybe add something positive for a change!

Sorry David, but I have posted them already in posts 29 & 30. Maybe you neglected to notice?
What's wrong with a good argument? Maybe you'd prefer us to all be sheep and follow you with the flock?

I did miss the pics Rich, thanks!
I'm in So. Calif. so I don't know anything about sheep... I hear you guys have plenty!
Let's keep it going though and 'discuss' your ribbons....poor pics but the weave and edging looks terrible and for me not what I'd expect in period ribbon....
That said however, if the ribbon is worn etc. it could affect the look of quality!

Joerg not at all.....
Rich and I just had a very bad divorce some time ago....he got the house and I got the business along with the dog! He's never forgiven me
This topic is very good though as ribbons and cases are rarely addressed
