Luftwaffe Pilots Badge...any ideas?
Hello,
I came across this pilots badge today along with a para badge (which I have posted for comments in the Paratrooper forum). I took some photos of it in the antique store and came home to compare it to badges on the forum.
I'm glad that I did that because it is a G.H. Osang Dresden, marked Pilots Award. According to some posts that I have found these shouldn't really exist as Osang didn't make pilots badges.
I have posted these pics for others to see and would like comments from any Luftwaffe collectors.
My main question is has someone destroyed a perfectly good pilots badge by placing a questionable makers mark on it or is the complete thing a total fake?
It is with a case and a cloth observers badge but I don't really like the case because it does look extremely new. I don't know enough about these to comment.
Thanks for your comments and opinions. Perhaps seeing this badge will help out other collectors.
Thanks
Mark
P.S. I am not buying this one thanks to the forum. Cheers

Maker mark...note the straight leg on the R in Dresden. One thread mentioned that these R's have the leg curved inward.
Also note the appearance of a box around the whole mark.

Case. Sorry about the photo as the only shot I have of the top of the box is blurred. I guess I wasn't very steady.

Open case. I should have left the badges out for this shot.

Hi Mark,
Your correct about this one. Osang indeed isn't a known maker of the Pilot badge. The eagle on this badge looks like something in between GWL and the unknown maker and the set-up tends more towards Juncker. The wreath also is quite crude. For sure not an original with the wrong mm as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks Philippe,
I had already decided not to go for this badge after reading about Osang not being a maker. But hearing your opinion as to the mix of looks on this badge...it is a good one to keep pics of in the fake category.
Thanks again and kindest regards
Mark
