Default Improved MG42 photos

Thought i would re-post some photos of my mg42.
It had a cof WaA519 top cover with some cof and some WaA11 marked feed levers.
Managed to find a WaA147 top cover to match other bpr components on gun this top cover also had enough WaA11 feed levers bits so i could make a complete WaA11 feed lever components top cover to match WaA11 Maget receiver CRA.
Had a post war bakerlite stock and managed to find and replace it with genuine bakerlite WaA11 stock.
The extension head of barrel was ruined in deactivation process by cutting away the locking grooves, Managed to replace it with barrel with complete extention head also looking like to me barrel is WaA11 marked.
Still looking for better bolt

nice mg42 looks in really nice condition, but its a shame during the deactivation process they "shaved" the barrel release door, so i guess you cant pull the barrel from the receiver the normal way because the barrel catch from the door is cut away? either way its not too bad you could easilly replace the door at some point i guess, most deacts have the door welded shut , old specs are rare indeed, iv got my eye on an old spec mg34 at minute that fully strips including the barrel, pre 90 deact so even the receiver seperates from the barrel jacket, its next on my list, then a lafette 34 - expensive hobby :P

Nice job Rob!
Those stock are a tough one to find, looks like there is a faint WaA11 on the left side of the bakelite as well. An unnumbered WaA147 top covers are not that plentiful as well.
That gun probably had an early slab sided cocking handle as well if you are trying to put it back to its original state.
Grest Job

Thank you, The condition is good for item 60+ years old. it is a shame that the barrel door is gone...have to push barrel out from other side. I would like to replace the door at some point. Hope you get that mg34, old spec would be great.

Thanks Ed.
I think its right in the middle of the point were they changed from slab to handle. This mg being about october/november 1943 so im not sure if it would of had a slab handle, Think it looks better with handle it got now. The stock is marked WaA11

Thanks for looking Rob

Rob,
You may be correct. Here is a pic of an early cocking handle off of a 1943 Maget gun serial number 53XX b also a pic of its front site.
I have also seen a transitional cocking handle that has the later verticle grip but the rest is off a slab sided cocking handle with WaA stamps on every part.

Rob,
After looking at your pics a little closer it appears that maybe the front site pins have been removed and rein-stalled. So maybe the site was replaced at some point in the last 69 years.
