What Have we Got Here?
Hi Team,
Posting on behalf of a friend who was given this. Can we get some opinions on it as to what it was for and when it was manufactured?
Regards,
Mark

Hi Mark,
Andrew 's link covers matters off very well.
But I am not sure why Andrew says it is of "interwar manufacture" IMHO it is definitely WW1 . C.P Goerz ,Berlin - optical equipment was made only at the Berlin factory until the end of WW1 and then this company collapsed financially. The Goerz company was resurrected prior to WW2 as C.P Goerz ,Wien ( and used the 3 letter code bpd ) K.P. Goerz also made binoculars at Bratislava in the inter war years. I don't know what happened to the Bratislava factory when the Germans annexed nearby Czechoslovakia in 1938.

Hi Stew, I was lead to believe that the wartime manufactured items were dated as my one is below the manufacturers logo "III 18" for March 1918 and post WW1 undated. these were still made and used between the wars. At the end of the day if Im wrong Im wrong, just trying to help Mark out with his ID and recalling information that has been relayed to me so I cant quote cold hard facts.
Andrew

They started production at "number 1". The example Mark shows here, "number 3703" was made long before MG34NZ's example in the link "number 15349" In fact there is almost a 12,000 unit difference,
Chris

Here is "number 8636". This is the nicest condition example that I have ever had. My friend's grandfather brought it back from WW1. Note the Imperial German artillery designation " flamming bomb & RKr. " before the number

And here is "number 8814". This one turned up for sale locally. I should have bought it to get an example in its case with the instructions,
