Default Victorian presentation sword

Has anyone seen this sword before? It is Gilt gold to about halfway down the blade in scroll, then it is Damascus steel the rest of the way. It has a Queen Victoria cipher and a MW or WM on the maker (Wilkinson?) Any help would be appreciated.

You might try here, but the difference between this sword site and this forum for german medals should be incorporated here. first here is the site:
http://www.swordforum.com/forums/for...ry-Sword-Forum

Then here is their policy i feel we as a forum should incorporate here relating the same to our policys, read this and see if you dont agree?
Sword Identification & Values
The knowledge base on this forum is as helpful as it is diverse and highly experienced. If you have a sword you would like to identify, please feel free to post pics and we'll be glad to assist. However, assessing 'value' is a different story. While knowing what your sword is worth is an important part of owning it, many limiting factors exist that will influence the actual value. For this reason, we do not offer appraisal services.

Please do not abuse the knowledge base!
Occasionally, users will post subject matter with the sole intention of intelligence-gathering prior to the sale or auctioning of a sword. While this sales enhancement strategy is positive for the user, it is unfair to those who freely give of their time in answering questions and providing information and the site as a whole in no way benefits financially from acting as the source for the data in the first place. If any users are found to be utilizing the forums in this way, they will be summarily banned.

This policy should be added here and i move we stop allowing free appraisals to anybody. Let them figure out what they want on their own, and I think more of those using e stand will get a deal now and again. there is more they say, but if you click on the link , you can read the rest.

About this sword, it may be british, but might be a german made blade, although it is a very valuable example for what it is , just by the quality of its manufacture. Be careful before assessing a sale price , if you ever decide to sell. It is a very fine scoop, one seldom encountered. Nice find.

IMO not British and the makers mark is definitely not Wilkinson. The cypher is hard to see clearly but the crown is wrong for a Victoria Crown - it looks more continental to me. I would guess one of the German principalities pre WW1 or Austro-Hungarian.

On the sword forum they state it is a British M1854 sword with a Queen Victoria cipher and that the blade may be a German composite

Yes it's definitely A Queen Victoria cipher, the blade may be German as it was stated the Brits did not do a lot of Damascus. The scabbard is a gold wash also so either a general's sword or a presentation sword made by a German maker.
