Default M-18 Camo

Hello all- Looking for any comments regarding this helmet. Came out of a closed VFW back in Ohio. It's been one of my top shelf helmets for the last couple of years. Complete liner with pillows. Very unique camo paint scheme. The most unique part is the 1914 painted on the back. I've always liked to think that the soldier put that on there to tell everyone else in his unit "I've been here since the beginning". Any comments welcome!

At a glance looks good. Is the Chin strap complete or broken?

I don't know what to think about "1914", but did you see the "77" on the inside of the neckguard?
The camo almost looks fluorisent yellow and orange. It's certain they didn't use that as camo in WW1, but maybe this is just because of the pics?
Nevertheless I think this helmet stands a chance, but better pictures and close-ups will be needed to give a better and accurate comment...

Thank you for the comments so far. Yes, the chinstrap is complete. If there was an ink stamp, it's faded long ago. I agree about the pics. I now have a better camera, and new pics will be posted soon. I'll try to get a mix of indoor and outdoor lighting.

War

I like it so far.
Reminds me of a helmet from that well dig.
I've a lid with that orange thing going on somewhere amongst me pile. I believe we should not be so strict on wartime colors imo.
For example the quite bright poppy looking red is a favorite of mine and not often seen on lids.

Thumbs up M-18

Hello,
Great camo and I would have no issues with this beauty! I have even seen an almost cobalt blue on these helmets.

Regards,
Jody

Nice complete M18 helmet. Like others have said, the camo has a chance, and I would agree, but an in hands inspection or much better pics are needed. I wouldn't have a problem adding this one to my collection. Congrats.

Adding to Eric's Comments:

I don't think it's a complete post war job but I think it's possible it was touched up very early 1920 for sale in the markets. Red is not the color of choice in camos but before the regs came out you might have seen some odd colors in use. The times were very experimental. So I think it's also possible it's an honest trench painted helmet. I don't lean either way more or less. Give it a 50/50 but either way it's collectible.

i see no issues with the camo, including the red paint. the '1914' is an obvious post war addition to a nice complete original

what is that flower-like black painted design under and to the left of the '1914' ?
