Burgermeister? Livery? Bavarian? Help?
Hey guys. A few weeks ago, i picked this up in a grouping of mostly German Militaria. It was quite an attractive piece, and i did buy this group mostly for this piece. However, i am unable to settle in on its significance or what it may be. The beads are fine silver and are quite heavy. The detail is phenomenal. The enamel work is also as good as i have seen. Any ideas or a direction to search further would be most appreciated. Thank you so much!
Sincerely,
Jeremiah

It shows the family crest of the Burggrafen (Counts) of Nürnberg and the coat of arms of Hohenzollern
It could be related to the city of Bayreuth.
Hohenzollern ----- Burggraf of Nürnberg

Thanks Naxos! That is spot on for two of the three types of beads. I had wondered if it was a Livery Chain. It is a US Vet Bring Back from WW2, which would explain why it is piecemeal. My pictures cannot do this justice. It is absolutely fine and was certainly made for someone or something with a lot of resources. I cannot find a picture of it anywhere, but i remember seeing an interview with Rommel's son( I believe he is the mayor of Munich?), and to my recollection, he was wearing something similar. This is truly one of my most interesting finds no matter what it turns out to be.
Sincerely,
Jeremiah

Hello theepiphanynow,
What you have there appears to be a collar, or part of a collar, to the Prussian King’s Hohenzollern Order.
Two points -
1. These collars are widely faked.
2. Your piece appears to be of excellent quality.
Based on it’s quality, I would say that it would be well worth the effort to have it expertly evaluated.
Best wishes,
Wild Card

Agree with Wild Card, this is (parts of) the chain for the Großkomturkreuz of the HOH.
Might the other stuff from the lot be related to it? Grand crosses, breast stars?!

Jeremiah - is there any markings on the parts of chain? If not, it could be a jewellers copy from 1930's (all pieces that was "in use" that I saw has markings, most of post 1918 jewellers copys hasn't).
Even if it is a jeweller copy, it is period imo and a neat piece!

Thank you all so much for your help. I was reading about the Hohenzollerns last night, and it was very interesting, and the more i read and saw, the more my curiosity built. Unfotunately, there was nothing more than a few typical trinkets in the find. The usual stuff that a vet would pick up. I had decided last night that i would probably need a professional evaluation of the piece, but i have no idea where to go with it. Any help finding a reputable appraiser would be greatly appreciated. Again, thank you very much!
Sincerely,
Jeremiah
