Default GWL luft GAB

I was searching for a long time for a good GWL GAB and now have one in my hands. But the finish of the wreath looks strange to me. At the top it's milky white but the rest area is more silver. Repainted? Cleaned? All opinions are welcome

From what I can see it is a unmolested. The badge is made of zinc so maybe that has something to do with the discoloration. I have seen this before and personally would not be concerned.
I like the badge

Regards,
Frank

Hi Alex,

Looks good to me as well, textbook GWL production IMO.

The only thing I would question is the finish on the clouds. It looks OK, but I would look very closely to make sure it was not refinished somehow. The reason I say this is the missing patch of black right under the eagle's chest and beak, seems like this would be the most protected spot from wear, yet there is no black there which is weird IMO. I would also look very closely in between teh swastika arms to see if there is any trace of black paint on the arms, which should not be there.

The eagle doesn't look removed at all and the rivets appear textbook, so if it is refinished they would have had to have done it with the eagle still attached.

I hope it is right, its a beautiful piece and in really nice condition. As already said, these are about as rare as they come and I am still looking for a nice one for my collection.

Tom

Default lacquer

Both of mine have traces of the original factory lacquer on the clouds and some has chipped off so if its just rough black finish it could be refinished on the clouds and bolt but as Tom said unquestionably and original GWL

Thank you all for your replies!

Tom, it's spots of lacquer, almost everywhere...

Hi Alex,

Thanks for the additional pics, they look very good to me. I don't see any traces of new black on the eagle at all. And the wear on the black looks believable, even though it is very slight.

I would have no problem adding this one to my collection.
