I think the big problem at this tunic is the provenance!
It could be a good tailor work with original parts and an empty name tag!

I have never seen a name tailor tag sewn in this way, anybody has seen this that way in an original tunic?

I am not a tunic collector but I have a question after reading this thread. It's apparently obvious to those that commented that the chance this tunic is original is unlikely. Purportedly(I've never dealt with them) Hermann Historica is a legit. auction house. Has any one contacted them and raised the issues with this tunic that are outlined here?

It looks like it is sewn halfway out of the pocket but I think it is actually sewn on the pocket bag and they pulled it up for the photo. I have seen tags sewn this way.

Jim, I would say with any high-end "personality" item, it doesn't matter who the auction house is - you have to be very careful. There are a couple of "common" uniforms in this auction that I would also steer clear of as well, so it's up to the bidder to satisfy themselves. That, and it is damned hard to make a judgement on a lot of the items from two or three pictures.

Yes he did, he changed his name from Waldemar to Axel Fegelein, he died on 20 November 2000.

Such a high end famous personality tunic must have surfaced from somewhere and should be known, or known to collectors.

Pedigree of a tunic claimed to be to Fegeleins is very important. Without that I would never purchase a tunic like that. Beyound that one of course has to check for the usual traits of a put together, which can be hard as well - even in hand is some cases, and naturally if original insignias (which at least the collar tabs seems to be).

As it is know HH in some cases has refused refunds, who on earth would take the chance?

I couldn't agree with you more that every auction house from Parke Bernet to Joe's Weekly Auction in Podunk Iowa have been caught at one time or another selling something that's being mis-represented.
However; I would expect an auction house with Hermann's reputation to review information such as what has been provided in regard to a lot they're preparing to sell and to act accordingly.
I have reported lots in the firearms arena with "problems" and either the description has been revised or the lot has been pulled if the issue was severe enough to warrant it.

I would say that has to be one of the first tailors name tag that I can clearly read the owners name...that fact alone would make me step back. I have seen a couple of Hitlers name tags that you can make out, but mainly because you know whose it was.
