Default Hitler Youth Leader dagger ???

Got a question on a Hitler Youth Leader dagger that WAS at an auction. Photos posted are only one I have.
This is a dagger I thought I would never buy much less have an opportunity to purchase at a decent price, so never did any research or study. Lesson one study everything.

I passed on the dagger at auction partly because of how it came to auction , BUT mainly because of the ferrule shape above the cross guard.

I found the information on Hitler Youth leaders dagger on a German dagger site thread “HY Leader opinion” showing 2 styles of ferrule one with a full radius which suppose to be correct. Same thread photo shows the supposed reproduction ferrule as more of a bevel the a radius.

Dagger on auction had the bevel ferrule but dagger was IMO fairly correct.
From the photo's posted did I screw up royally.

I think the dagger is OK.
It is very hard to copy this certain kind of leather and finish...

It all depends on how much it sold for before you can ask yourself if you screwed up or scewed up royally.

A pretty good price for an HJ Leader in this condition. Auctions can be a minefield so live & learn. If you jump the gun all the time you'll just be burned lots.

Tom-
It's not a given that you could have won it for anything near that price. The guy who won it at $1525 may have been willing to go much higher.

If you hung in with your bidding, the end result probably would have been either him or you paying alot more for it.

So, don't feel like you missed a "bargain."

The next biggest mistake to make after not buying it would be buying it and then cleaning it.Don't clean daggers.

Considering how rare HJ Leaders are, especially at a local auction, is a once in a life time experience IMO.
