Default Heer para FLL

This one looks decent to me but with rivits rehit and a few dings to the eagle as a consequence- Type A- what do you think?

Hi Patrick,

Looks like some very heavy pitting on the eagle. The wreath finish also looks too clinical, however the reverse hardware setup seems pretty believable. Any chance of close ups of the hinge and catch?

Hi Tom, its winging its way over to me from your part of the world right now so will take some closeups when it arrives. Comparing the wreath cut out/ eagle design everything matches from what I can see. The wreath may be refinished but I did have one of these a while back that had full gilding and just the eagle had faded- again type 2. I am not aware that this badge has been decently faked as yet except for the Stegemaier version which has the other hinge? have you soon any good repros of this badge?

Thanks

Patrick

Hi Patrick,

Staeg's fakes are really the only ones I know that come close to originals.

I really like the reverse hardware on this one, but how to explain the pitting on the eagle? Obverse looks very soft, and shiny like its cast from real silver, but the reverse of the eagle looks like typical zinc.

Looking forward to some good pics when you get her in hand.

Tom

well its here! and 100pc original in my opinion. It has been polished a good number of times over the years but as the wreath is havily plated with tomback or copper this hasn't caused too much of a problem. The eagle is zinc and is more silver looking to the front due to being polished. The pitting is the result of zinc rot that was cleaned away a long time ago. The rivits are shallow but show no sign of being damaged and the pin has been sharpened but appears to be the original.

Hi Patrick,

Looks like the army para badges are falling out of the sky where you live

For me a 100% original example and as you say yourself, the pitting in the eagle are the remains of cleaned zink rot.

I see that it has a misaligned die trimm, that helps point to a type 'A' FLL. Everythings looks good except that the hardware is questionable.

Thanks for the comments guys- agreed the wreath doesn't look like zinc, I thought it was tombak when I first looked at it but there is a catchplate present so it would appear to be thickly copper coated zinc hence the really good finish remaining

Looked for quite a while now, but I would not feel comfortable owning this badge.

Daniel
