Fallschirmjäger regiment 1 (Holland) pictures
I just purchased 12 pictures of Fallschirmjäger Regiment 1 at Moerdijk.
The pictures are from 7./FJR.1 and 8./FJR.1 ,who fought near Moerdijk.
On one of the pictures you can see 4 temporary graves including the grave of Oberjäger Josef Markl of 8./FJR.1. who died along with three other of 8./FRJ.1 .
I found some information :
Oberjäger
8./FJR.1
Surname: Josef
Family name: Markl
Date of Birth: 31 december 1914 [31.12.1914]
Place of Birth: Wappmansdorf
Date Killed in Action: 10 mei 1940 [10.05.1940]
Location: Moerdijk
Graveyard: IJsselsteijn
Grave: CO-128
•About the four fatalities of 8./FJR.1 little is known in respect to the circumstances of their deaths. The battalion-report mentions te considerable losses suffered around Moerdijk though, and includes 8./FJR.1. It is therefore assumed that the four KIA fell in and just outside the village. The company was assigned the task of securing the southern and southeastern perimeter of the bridgehead with two platoons and cutting off Dutch reinforcement attempts to the bridge area by sealing of the east side of the village.
Also on one of the pictures you can see captured Dutch soldiers ,including 2 officers ( i think of the Marechaussee, but correct me if i'm wrong ). I try to find out who the 2 capturet officers are.
Of course any other information about the pictures is welcome .

Interesting photos. Thanks for posting them. I enjoy seeing the early campaign shots.

I remember making the Ysselsteijn picture for the Zuidfront-website. Interesting to see it together with the first grave.
The temporary graves are in the Kloostertuin in Moerdijk. Some weeks later they were all re-located in Dordrecht.
Josef Markl was already listed as a member of 8./FJR1 on the EKM-Verzeichnis of september 1939, being the 754th member of II./FJR1.
According to the EKM-Verzeichnis he was born in Wuggmannsdorf, not Wappmansdorf.
Very nice pic's.

Thanks a lot for the information.
Now I know where the temporary graves picture was taken.
I always like to get as much information as possible about a picture, or to find information about a picture....

Hi Remco,
I checked Google Maps, and no such things as Wuggmannsdorf or Wappmansdorf. But there is a Woppmannsdorf in Bavaria. Very, very small village.
Of course, Wuggmannsdorf/Wappmansdorf could have been renamed (as happened mostly with places that went after the war to PL, CZ etc.) or has merged with another community.
So I looked up Markl in Woppmannsdorf, and there are 2 in the village, 2 without address (but same area) and 2 live in places nearby. Two in the village with the same name - big chance they are related.
Groet,
Frank.

Could be, but where he lived with his parents according to the EKM-Verzeichniss was somewhere else. For obvious reasons I'll keep that info to myself.

The 2 men in the 2nd pic are corporals of the "Politietroepen" (policetroops) so not Marechaussée (Militairy Police).

Is there maybe a way to find out who the 2 corporals of the policetroops are in the picture?
I already have tried several internet sites, but so far without result.
