Your incredible. Please start on reference books I,d be the first in line for a signed copy. They'd be Imperial best sellers.
The only downside would be none of us would need to ask questions!!!! Gents, Chips' book says **********,,,,.end of discussion.

I agree. His knowledge on every detail seems limitless. He's been a great source of information for my collecting alone, I'm sure he's been a great help to many others as well.

Hey Chip, one never knows what to believe of the stuff you get from google, maybe I should give them you phone number, I think I have it here somewhere. Fact is, you should have published your first book back during the Kaiserzeit years.
Best

Gus,

Kaiserzeit started publication forty years ago in 1972! I was just starting my WWI collecting then, having been a WWII collector up until that time. A book written back then would be a joke today.

This guy?

I don't know. With no verified history, I have a hard time trusting medic painted helmets. Especially from a brand new seller.

Here's a question:

Why paint camo on a helmet if you're going to paint a big white and red cross on the front? Doesn't that defeat the purpose?

Don't know
Thought it was worthy of discussion. Looks like a field painted job, maybe that was done and worn with no cross only later applied and reissued. Rotten ebay photos as usual. Hard to tell chum.

Default Sanitatsmann with Red EK Armband

A few weeks ago I posted a pic of an armband that Chip correctly identified as a rare variation medical armband with a red EK as opposed to the more common red cross.

Attached again is the armband and a photo that sold yesterday on eBay of a German sanitaetsmann wearing a similar armband.

So, contrary to the belief that these were made, stored in a warehouse, but never used, here is proof that they were actually worn.

Well, I never said that this type of armband was never issued, just that this one I have was not.

I saw and bid on that photo too, but came in second!

As mentioned, I also have a photo of an Austrian wearing a similar armband.

Sorry, I misunderstood you.

I was hoping actually that you got it, given your interest in this. Anyway, since it seems an atypical type of armband, I should think that it and the photos (this one and the one you have) are rare.

bolewts58,

It is the first photo that I have ever seen of a German wearing this type of red cross. I would agree that the photo is a rare one. The armband, is unusual for sure, but there was more than one of them that came out of this lot. They all came from the same Doughboy's estate. He brought back duffelbags full of stuff, including various types of armbands with multiples of each. From this find I got four different armbands, all of which I have seen identical examples of in other collections.

Regards,
Chip
