Default Otto Funk

Hi,

Otto Funk , made famous by the " Stuttgarter Illustrierte" died this Sunday ,September 11.

Otto Funk is wounded near Cheux on June 26 1944 but will continue fight till the bitter end. On May 8 1945, the survivors of 12.SS-Panzer-Division Hitlerjugend surrendered to the U.S. 65th Infantry Division, 7th Army, near Enns in Austria. In a final act of defiance, the division refused to drape their vehicles with white flags, as the Americans had ordered.

Otto Funk (1990 )

Regards

Phil.

what interest me the most is the look in his younger SS years, when fighting heavily in bathered Normandy. Look at his eyes....It is strength, power, ready for battle....

And compare to his look at older age...a friendly man, with memories, life experiences, peace. Just an ordinary person in life.

This is history.

Thanks for the information! I was just wondering the other day if he was still alive and wrote to another forum member, he didn't know either. Now I know he is not alive...

Rest in peace Otto.

Does is matter at this point? He lived in a small town in Germany. No offence, but I think those who know where he lived can keep it for themselves.

Surely someone knows? While in Germany a few times that I know are reluctant to talk about the war there and the Waffen SS is a taboo. I talked with veteran battles at Kursk, but spoke very reluctantly.

Are there any other pictures Otto Funk after 2000?

I had the honour and pleasure of knowing Otto for many years .We first met in Austria at the 1 Panzer Korps Reunion and remained friends ever since . His face will forever be remembered with the fierce fighting in Normandy by the 12 HJ Div . He will be missed by all who knew him .
I agree with PerMilitaria , where he lived is not important and those of us who knew Otto can keep this to ourselves .
This is a photo of me and Otto taken some years ago .
