KMST 'Mousetrap', 2 different makers?
This cross does not have the typical 'KMST' and 'DRGM' markings (not stamps) that are a part of the backplate. So a different backplate.
It got a different front frame.
It got the so called 'Slanted-W' core which is not the typical KMST core that got a higher crown.
It got a different kind of mousetrap hardware where the top pin is a part of the hardware and not as the KMST, separately attached to the backplate.
It got the same '800' stamp (on the end pin) that are found on true KMST mousetraps.
Another maker or just a KMST-version?
Fake hardware?

A "normal" KMST, belongs to Bernie.

The first cross appears to be a frankenstein. Fake hardware added to a real cross.

Same thoughts here - a Frankenstein. Not surprising given what originals go for. It looks like the obverse is flat (a big giveaway), so another genuine EK2 bites the dust.
Regards
Mike

More pics of the weird one. This was sold recently on German eBay for 750 € (if i remember it right) so it seems like at least some collectors believe it to be good?

Mike, you mean a EK1? Never saw a EK2 with the Slanted-W core. When i think of it never saw a Slanted-W that was flat either

Have to agree with Don here, too. It's not a K.M.ST. but hardly tries to be - it tries to hard, in my opinion.
It indeed was discussed in Germany, and some might believe in it. Still, I would not touch this one.

not a KMST cross and i don't like the quality of the solder job
attaching the hardware.
It does make me wonder where the hardware came from. Has anyone
seen anything else that uses similar parts?

"It got the same '800' stamp (on the end pin) that are found on true KMST mousetraps."
This is not correct, the KMST got a 'incuse square 800' and the discussed one a normal 800.

I agreee Kay, it looks very well done and got "that" matching color and wear. This is the last pic, stole 'em from the eBay auction.
Really not sure about this one...

I wouldn't go near this one, personally.
I'd think the soldering of the frame is irrelevant.

Is that so? Very interesting. No one has ever seen one?

You are not kidding brother... http://www.hermann-historica.de/aukt...db=kat61_o.txt
I'm all for variants, but Hermanns recent sale just seems lunacy. Add in the auction house fees, thats the equivalent of a DKiG right there!!
