Another pair of utterly unusual M44 lowboots!
I'd love to share with you the pictures of a pair of "last-ditch" M44/45 Low boots! This one is very interesting imo, in that it's probably a pair of experimental low boots which should have eventually substituted for the bergschuhe and the M37/44.
These boots have an upper band of brownish felt made of animal fibers and are lined inside with soft leather, stamped with the lot # and the typical sizes(28 / 6).They're made of three different types of leather;the rearmost part is made of brown leather, the vamp is made of black, pebbled leather and the front part with rounded-up and internally reinforced toe-cap is made of raw hide.
Nails are driven straight into the thick soles and the heels are nailed with a pattern closely resembling the one found on the heels of Italian made M44s(side nails are identical in shape too;see DJPoole's !).Up front there are bat-wings and the nails are five-sided ones bar a single one which is six-sided.The threads used to sew the various pieces together are a strong cotton thread and an even stronger black thread made of animal fibers. The inner tongue is made of two pieces of black, scrap leather sewn together, a rather unusual feature on German shoes, whose tongue was NEARLY(capital and underlined) always made of a single piece of leather.
The laces passing thru six enameled eyelets and original to the shoes, are made of black cotton and their tips are made of iron. The right shoe has a small paper tag glued to it that reads "Willy Heublein,42" and these shoes were found in a German basement together with a copy of "Die Wehrmacht"whose photos had been colored with crayons by a childish hand....during a bombing may be!I know...it sounds kinda "romantic" but I love to imagine that! These shoes had been auctioned on eBay last year for a very low starting price by a gentleman who described them as"Nailed boots of uncertain origins" or something like that and they were so "Fakeish"that everybody passed on them ....well...sort of...now they are in my collection....to stay !
Hope you enjoy!
Manny

Hi Bart,
we ALL have to learn about them, especially when a pair of nice boots can easily set you back several hundred hard-earned Dollahs! We all want to make sure about that WH sidecap, don't we?A pair of mint knobelbecher cost even more!
