Sorting through my collection recently I found a small group of 18 photographs that I purchased several years ago. This is one of the few groups not relating to my main collecting interests that I have decided to keep. The group is from a Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung that was deployed on the Eastern Front. Unfortunately, there are not enough clues in the group for me to determine exactly which battalion this was. There are a number of nice portrait in the group, as well as a small series of photos showing an award ceremony for a number of men from the battalion who are receving the Iron Cross 2nd Class. The quality of the photos is excellent, but what also is of interest is that you can see the men receiving the actual award documents, which is something that I myself have not seen very often. I am posting a number of photos from this group for those members of the forum who are interested.
Two portrait photos: in the first, both men have the Coastal Artillery Badge. The second photo was just nice and sharp, which is the kind of image I like best, allowing you to really see the details of his uniform - even the buttons!
Next, a photo of one of the anti-aircraft machine guns of the battalion, this one is I believe an ex-French Hotchkiss (?). I have seen this type also used by Polizei-Bataillone and other "2nd line" units.
The last four photos are from the Iron Cross award ceremony, and I have tried to put them in order:
