Yes, let's stick to the polls...
Cultural items could be books and publications that promoted the SS ideology, or other items including their allach ware, the SS julleuchter (or other hand made earthenware) and so on. For this thread, we could also include breadplates and tableware although those cutlery sets are strictly not a cultural item.
I've also realised that I missed out the SS pins for this poll!

I have nothing against you, but...I'd like to point out
I don't prefer these "Whats your favorite" threads, as they are becoming more and more bothersome and are generally a waste of forum space better spent on specific items with photos.
I find learning threads more interesting , with an item to start for some reason less personally directed , to encourage others to post like examples or variations of the same... to see differences or to learn something about a particular item.
These type threads always seem to impress me , to have another motive behind them, for an asundry of possible reasons.(I'll leave to the imagination)
I could care less what is a favorite item to anybody, as that is always too difficult to answer especially if one has many items equally as interesting , so who can give one thing as an answer.Like whos your favorite band, nobody only likes one , so Is it possibly to be directed to evade others privacy, or BBBBBRRRTTT!!!!???.
It's plain to see, in subjects educationally directed , what people like , when they add their assistance to another who needs help on an item they may be seeking to buy ,or authenticate,or even learn about ...when we share our knowledge or items photos ...weather we own them or not , as opposed to just what i like to call a"chit chat" thread.

from your reply... seems you don't study nothing about Waffen SS and, of sure, European Traditional culture.

I remember to you that... in the Axis side were the most important philosophers of XX cent. such as Heidegger, Mishima, Pound, Gentile, Celine, Schmitt and so on...

As we say in Holland: 'dat slaat als een tang op een varken'. I am talking solitary about the SS. Yes, that organisation (whether you like it or not) that was responsible for the killing of millions 'unwanted'. Before investing time in a longer reply, let me rephrase:
According to you:
- The 'culture' of the SS was well founded and reasonable?

I have studied Ancient History for a year, and altough my knowledge of Germanic Culture is (to my own regret, as I find Northern-European cultures highly interesting) virtually zero, even I can see that copying ancient Germanic runes and put them on a collartab doesn't automaticaly mean your culture is of significance...

Ps. I am sorry for kidnapping this thread. Here is one of my favorite items to make up, hope you like it.

Wow, this thread is going sideways.
If this kind of thread isn't your cup of tea, others always come along. No need to pass such strident judgement.
Okay, as I understand, "SS cultural items" in the context of collecting (and this is a collecting forum, not a sociological or political forum) refers to SS songbooks, art, porcelain, domestic items, magazines, etc. Maybe it is unfortunate that such items are now under the banner "cultural" but that seems to be the applicable term as used by the community.
Let's see your items! What's out there? What do you love?
@J.W.L. B. great picture. I just realized Mr. Hauptscharfuher is wearing an officer's chinstrap on his visor. Would that be authorized as he was such a high-ranking NCO?

Mark,
Nope, it hasn't been deleted. it's right here, with over 375 posts and 42,000 views:
http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...e+related+item
And yes, it is a great thread showcasing loads of impressive items. IMHO there is no need to start a new second thread on the subject Mods - why not just delete this one and continue with the original that Mark started? Besides, judging from the tangent this one seems to have taken, it's turning into a waste of bandwidth........

Also he has piped collar tabs. Doesn't that mean he has graduated from one of the Officer schools but not yet been promoted to Untersturmfuhrer?

Hi Tony,
Yes - also note the lack of NCO tresse.
I find the NORD cufftitle interesting as it was not, I understand, an assigned W-SS cufftitle (i.e. the 6th Division although granted the name Nord was not assigned a cufftitle as well). This is an A-SS cufftitle or one made up by the individual.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From the English Cambridge dictionary cultural is defined thus:-
"relating to the habits, traditions and beliefs of a society"
I think this is quite straightforward from a collectors point of view - it refers to magazines (Schwarze Korps), propaganda (e.g SS 1944 diary), posters, cards, art (Allach), 3R period books and probably a few other things I haven't mentioned. A lot of people might find this less controversial (as you are trying to understand a period of history) than simply collecting helmets, badges, Nazi flags or in your case portraits of the W-SS. This could be mis-construed (so I don't think this in your case!) as wanting to surround yourself with 'SS heroes' to a non-collecting member of the public. So I think your comment is unfair on Fenrir.
I think the even greater problem with your comment is to refer to the "great civilization" of Rome as though they were somehow 'nicer' than the German 3rd Reich! Let's not forget that from our modern perspective the Romans were bloodthirsty maniacs without any semblence of modern morality whatsoever! For instance when the Romans defeated the City state of Carthage in 146BC they did this:-
"The Romans pulled the Phoenician warships out into the harbor and burned them before the city, and went from house to house, capturing, raping and enslaving the people. Fifty thousand Carthaginians were sold into slavery.[12] The city was set ablaze, and in this way was razed with only ruins and rubble to field the aftermath."
Subsitute the word Romans for Waffen SS and you'd have yourself a pretty serious war-crime to discuss at Nuremberg in 1946......
Prisoners of war were only taken to be used as slaves, they were often used as sex-objects (including children of both genders) or murdered for entertainment in various ampitheatres including Rome's Coliseum. It was often a custom that after killing a rival etc that that persons entire family should be butchered down to the last child to avoid revenge in later years. Practical and utterly brutal beyond our modern imaginations.
But we still study Roman culture right? It's history (thank God), and so is the 3rd Reich - hence we study it, and collect it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Back on the subject of the thread before we all got side-tracked..
If I still had my SS collection that would be my (untouched) SS Mann's Gotz von Berlichingen BW tunic in Italian cloth that had most certainly "been there".

Just to clarify, this thread is different from that which Mark started.
While the other thread requests one to post his or her favourite items, this thread is to find out through a poll concerning the popularly of each segment.
It is interesting to now know that SS uniforms and SS visors are the most popular among collectors, while personality and cultural items have a decent number of followers. The poll also showed that TK rings are being the least popular.
Maybe to some collectors, this piece of information is irrelevant, but I still hope other members will continue to vote on this poll.
Many thanks,
Mil.

I think your categories are a bit off. While helmets and visors are both "headgear," often collectors consider those two different fields. Also, there is no mention of other types of caps. Medals and insignia are completely different areas of collecting. I also don't understand why collar tabs and cuff titles deserved their own special category, while all other insignia got grouped with medals.
None of this is a big deal but it may create results which are hard to interpret.
