Evouloution Of German Helmet/ Display
Hello Guys ,i Noticed In Some Of Your Collections ,including Mine A Doubling Up Of Some Helmets.i Am Considering Downsizing My Collection To The Main Evouloution Of The German Helmet On Display.starting With The Pickle Haube, into The Mi6,transitional Period, into The M35,40 And 42,even The East German Helmet That Was Designed By The Germans In Ww2, But Never Went Into Production.i Would Include In The Display An Explanation Of The History Of The German Helmet For Any Visitors.also My Idea Is To Include A Few Relics To Show Battle Damage And Years Of Ageing Lost In The Battle Fields,i Would Appreciate Hearing What You Think Of My Ideas.best Wishes James /ireland

James, while I've completely stopped buying any Third Reich helmets for the moment I did try to get a nice example like you mentioned as to show German helmets past and present. I've gone as far back as the M1893 Pickelhaube with an NCO guard's helmet. One of these days I'll pick up an officer helmet. I had a nice one 15 years ago but sold it.
I do need a transitional helmet but otherwise I'm basically covered all the way through the modern Kevlar helmet. That was actually why I was jumping in. If doing this from the Pickelhaube era then I just think West Germany should be included. There were a couple of fairly interesting helmets in that mix too.

I had the very same idea with french helmets, starting with the 1915 Adrian until the latest Spectra "fritz". It makes more or less 6 lids, neither an impossible mission, nor really expensive.
Anyway, amazingly, I had some difficulties with a certain model...

Chris, what about the helmet badges? I have a few Adrian helmets along with a Romanian WWI and a Belgian WWII. I don't have room for a dozen Adrians but I'd love to get all the badges!

Peter, it's a real shame to take the badges apart from the helmets, I think you agree with that ; it's the same as taking a liner out of a german helmet (I never buy Adrians with replaced badges). So, as you was speaking about badges found alone ( ), they are sometimes seen here, but not really interesting if not on their original helmet. But as always, the rarest ones are faked, you need to be careful ; and having them all won't be a very easy job at all...

Iwould of thought that even a mix of military and civil would make a sizeable display, and will also help balance out costs wise, my biggest shame at present is my civil part of the helmet collection which is always boxed
