Default Mine Rescue

Hi

I sold this piece and it is being called out as a fake on MFF

It is not simular to the fakes I have seen usually in zink and has everything I expect in an original

Square base on top of medaille to jump loop

Highly detailed features

Original Ribbon , soft and flexible.

Quality tombak

Any other opinions?

Best
Dion

Hard to say!!! and no expert. In Niemanns price guide, it say the size on originals is 35 mm.

I have an original of this medal and is quite similar in hardware and all kind of details. Looking carefully i found the lettering details in your medal is softer, but if I had to bet i´ll bet yours is a good one.

Hi Gregerio

My one has lost a lot of finish and is worn down, you can see the wear on the eagle breast and the lettering.

Maybe... or maybe a different die. Soldering of the ring look different too.
Here you have the mine for comparing. The low part is not very well focoused. Look the upper side.

Look the ring. Obviously mine and yours were made by different makers, but I´m not telling anything about authenticity.

Hi Dion,

I also think that the one you posted is original but not a very good strike. You can actually see a "ghost" strike around a couple of the letters on the reverse caused by the die so IMO this medal was definitely not cast but struck.

Gregorio, your very nice medal is typical S & L.

Hey Stan

It is definitely struck, I missed the ghost lettering. I do believe as I said before tere are 3-4 variants of these. The fakes are pretty bad and easy to spot. As Gregario does, I like the off the radar types of TR Medals.

Could do with a better picture of the reverse.
The rim looks knocked about, strangely near to the ring, where you would not expect wear and tear to affect it.

Default Mine Service medal

Pete,

I know what you mean but this medal has probably never been worn on a uniform and has seen better days. Just a case of bad handling over the years I would imagine.

I have this medal bought by Dion.
MFF in the GCA and it has been recognized as a copy.
I have to convince me but by Dion let it be original.
He was a long-time collector, and he knew what he was selling.
I fell on something pure.
User Thomas Bendixen asked me to send him the medal.
He has without doubt a copy detected.
It is something thicker than original and shaped out of focus.
The medal of Dion has holes as cast.
The ring is not attached to the center to the Eagle.
The edge is not sharply marked and runs smoothly.
The small images it can not recognize the WAF.
Unfortunately, after the 7 days return privilege.
I asked Dion if I could return it, he wrote I was to blame.
He sold me a copy and does not take them back.
I am a young collector who with the mine rescue badge and its details do not knows and I fell for Dion.
He has written a pn he takes it back but in the same pn he continues to write, that I do not need, it guarantees the originality.

Here is the link to the Thread in the GCA.

Dion, if you hold for an original, why do you take it back and not sell it in your webstore?
In a PN you write, you can sell ea for 400th
Then take it back and give me my money and sell it to me also for 450 €.

Hello

You bought it last summer.

1st you told me it was a fake with a fake ribbon.

I told you you could have your money back and we started this thread. Then you informed me with the thread you were happy.

Now months later agin you told me you want yoour money back. I said no because I felt it was getting ridiculous and then you inform me to send your money back and I will get my medal back.

I do not believe this to be a cast fake. I went over it and found no casting holes or casting seams. The medal has been dinged about and has heavy wear. The ribbon is 100 % real also , not a fake as the info you were given. It appears to me to be a struck piece.

Best
Dion

Hi Andy

This thread is about the piece. The other thread is in Collectors Community.

If an item is fake I return the money.

I do not believe this piece to be cast nor fake..
