Default Cholm 1957

Hello

As i mentioned yesterday i bought two shield. The first one I should is the Lappland and this is the other one.

Just as his wartime brother these are difficult to find. My only compare I had was a picture from Krantz’s book 1958, page 110. So it was a bit a leap of faith because there are also low quality fakes from this badge.

When I received it I immediately knew I was a lucky SOB. On the obverse you can see a little bit of wear / usage and it looks like buntmetall peeping through (for example the eagles claws). The feathers behind the claws show enough detail for me to judge this one as a good one.

The reverse is done the same way as the Lappland with some kind of cardboard. The 3 broad pins go through some kind of iron / cupper loops.

Enjoy!

Stijn

PS Sorry Rüdiger. Like I already said we are fishing in the same small pool. From now on I’ll keep my eyes open for you.

Hi Stijn!! Again this looks like a nice shield!! Good detailing on it, especially on the eagle, i think that looks really good!!
Nice look to it overall, little bit of wear and patina.....very nice!!
Looks like its backed with the same material as the Lappland, must have been done by the same guy, as i dont think 57er shields came with any backing?
Great addition to your collection -Nigel

Very true Nigel. The 57er shields did not come with cloth backing.

Two nice shields you've added Stijn, albeit not official shields, they are good quality and nice EYE CANDY!

Good thing you and Rudiger live a good distance apart or I think there would be a scuffle!

Congrats to this very rare beauty

@ Mike
This is an official 57er award - the best looking 57er shield

Thanks for setting me straight on this one Rudiger. As I typed I was thinking, "I'm not 100% certain, but pretty certain." I appreciate you clearing it up for me.

I agree it's a beautiful looking shield and this one is a great example!

Since Belgium is only a day trip will you visiting Stijn late one night to raid his display?

Good idea
No, i think it´s better that i and Stijn drink one or two or more beers and visit a flea market. Then i´ll catch a DKIG and a DKiS with broad pin for a bargain price before his face 00008528.gif

Just kidding, Stijn
Better you got this cholm than another one out of the family

Thank you all for the positive reactions, guys. Much appreciated. thumbs

I've thought a lot of you the past few days, Rudiger and not in a homo erotic context.
But i thought you'd understand. You are already a longtime in the hobby to understand how things go.
As i said you have an extra pair of eyes looking out for your Cholm.

You had me spooked there for a moment, Mike.
I already saw Rudiger mounting his tank and heading to Belgium...
I'll have a beer with any time you want and we can discuss 57ers all night.

Best wishes

stijn

Hope you guys dont come across one another on eBay ... that would be one major bidding war .

But as said, its becoming more difficult to steer away from one another ... small pond it is .

Funny thread...reminds me of the 3 stooges (2 in this case), smacking each other around for a Cholm shield.
