Breast Eagle on luft hat?

I picked up a luftwaffe overseas hat at a out of the wood work price and am pretty sure it has not been screwed with, it seems to have a embroided breasteagle in place of the normal small eagle and cockade, and I can not find evidence that any thing else was sewn on before, is it possible that this is period done? Nothing glows under black light and thepiece shows a lot of wear, do you think it is legit? What do you think guys? Greg

Hi Greg,

I would be "concerned" if the cap only had a large tunic style breast eagle. As most cap eagles and cockades were hand applied, once removed they would leave little or no trace that they were there. How has the eagle been applied? Do you have a photo?
