Goggles for mountaintroops?

Never seen these before, but they are british and I belive for the mountain troops.

Since nobody comment this I take it for mountain goggles.

I believe these were for motorcycle despatch riders. To my knowledge there were never any mountain troops in the British Army, not in the last couple of wars anyway.

I thank you for your reply, but you are wrong. Despatch riders goggles was different, could show you pictures, but never took any from my collection.
British mountain troops where very well there during the war and to the end of the war. Anyway, these where most popular in the german army to as the german goggleas where used by the allied during the war.

hi, the 52nd lowland division were mountain troops, although there are not many pictures of them in action, less with goggles on, despatch riders & royal armoured corps troops used different types of goggles. your goggles might have been meant for mountain troops, but as they did'nt see much action, the goggles might have been passed on to despatch riders & the tank corps.

Sorry for my confusion in terms, I interpreted "Mountain Troops" as units equipped with skis and trained in winter warfare. It's ironic that the 52 LOWLAND Div should have been named "Mountain". Just read their history and they never went near a mountain in either of the 2 WWs. Your goggles could also have been Air Force I think. I was in the RAC and we used the goggles from our gas mask cases, there were 3 clear and 3 tinted. These are the ones you see Erwin Rommel wearing in the desert, the Afrika Korps found them just as useful as the 8th Army.

Just to add to the confusion, I am fairly certain that these are general issue pattern goggles for all kinds of uses although I have seen them with different lenses, clear, yellow and smoked.
I should also point out that there are many WW2 pics of troops training for mountain warfare and although not used as such in NWE there were several special units used in Italy

I can agree to that goggles was issued to all kinds of uses and not only mountain troops. I don't know about british mountain troops in NWE, but there was norwegian mountaintroops trained and dressed in england and in 1944 shipped to murmansk in russia and from there crossed the border in to norway.

I have to agree that they are a general purpose goggle and have seen photographic evidence of this style being used by Canadian armored troops and motorcycle troops. The amber tint would be of more benefit for a vehicle driver of some sort than a mountain troop who would likely need a dark tint to protect his eyes from the sun.
