SS Helmet - as good as it gets !
For me this is as good as it gets. A named SS helmet with history. Started out as a parade green double decal. Early in the war overpainted in field grey and redecaled.
What makes this special is the story. As with all helmets, it has to stand on its own. But, the story is it was liberated in Dachau by the US Army Colonel that was responsible for rehabilitating the prisoners of Dachu. With the helmet comes the original press release interview with the Colonel and Bill Bradley "The Voice of America" It comes with gruesome press photos the camp and executed SS guards.
This was a Camp helmet and I'm sure never saw combat. The best part it is named in the liner. I believe that the Col. must have taken a helmet of an important soldier. We'll see. The inscription I believe is :
E.ST = (Erganzung Standarte)
St. Stm, Otto Rasinger
8 kp 1st SS TV St Oberb = Oberbayern (core SS regiment employed at Dachau)
I'm not that smart to figure all that out. The previous collector did the work so far. Only a few are so advanced, I bet most of you will know who
Comments welcome, help is always appreciated. You guys will notice I will be selling a few things now, this didn't come cheap Check out the estand over the next week.

Thanks Perry, I'm really just showing off But any help regarding the name would be great. It is definetly a camp helmet, kinda spooky.
I will be trying to get some more info on the first owner.

Ty,
A wonderful helmet...congrats. I bit of a sordid past but it's history nonetheless. You simply cannot put a price on the provenance of such a piece. It's what ever the market will bear. You have a great investment and piece of history there.
The helmet itself is very cool as a repainted Q with Pocher decals. Nice!

Well that one truly deserves the spotlight, it would be the flagship of many advanced collections. I think it's killer, I would let a few items go as well to nab that one! Nothing wrong with that!

So this is the one we talked about Ty, this is a beauty to say the least and the history behind it add's to the historical value.
I'm sure some of the guy's with the knowledge to research names will be able to help you further on this.
Well worth every penny and an ultimate helmet to own and worth so much more to you because you have your sold beloved items, I've just had to sell some of my 'babies' (medals) and looking at one or two more to sell and it's hard to let them go. But, for that helmet don't regret it for one second.
I love it, I really do.
Kind regards,
Marcus

Spooky indeed...it's also a fine piece of history and that cannot be ignored despite its association to such unspeakable atrocity, I sure wish more people would see it as we do. Certainly is a winner!

Hi Rolf, I believe that when the camps were liberated the prisoners took out the guards. I do not know if the owner of this helmet was executed or tried in war crimes. I plan to find out what I can about the owner.
