Default LW Field division help.

Hello all,
just a quick request. I'm on the verge of putting together a LW field division soldier, but i'm finding that there are few photo histories showing Luft ground troops, so with the exception of some "Militaria magazine" issues and collected volumes it's turning into a bit of a session.....

I seem to remember one publication that was called "Goerings grenadiers" being published but i'm unsure now if it was dealing with the HG division or Luft ground combat units.
Any reviews or suggestions of books would be most welcome!

All the best,

Patrick.

Hi Patrick, I expect you have the old "Men at Arms" book on the LW feld units? Jack Melvin is also the man to talk to. I am sure Jack will add to this thread once he sees the title?
Cheers, Ade.

Patrick, Gorings' Grenadiers is a pretty good book for unit histories of the 21 existing field divisions. However, the attributions of photos to certain units is highly suspect. In fact, many of the photos in the book came from my website. Check my site out for alot of photos. Some are definitely field division. Others, however, may just be ground troops of the Luftwaffe in other branches of service.

Actually, the best photos that I have found are in a totally unrelated book. It is called "The MP38, 40, 40/1 and 41 Submachine Gun" and its ISBN is 90-805583-2-X. I would suggest buying it for some really interesting photos.

Otherwise, there are a few Osprey books with photos: Luftwaffe Field Divisions 1941-45, ISBN 1-85532-100-9 and Luftwaffe Airborne and Field Units, ISBN 85045 114 0. The second is out of print, but you should be able to pick it up off of ebay.

That'll give you a start. Willi is also pretty darn knowledgeable on them. So, maybe he can suggest some more items.

Here's my website: 8. und 18.Feld Divisionen (Lw)

Hi Both,
thanks for the tips, the "Men at arms" field division book indeed sparked off the interest, but then i found i'd hit a brick wall. There does seem to be a paucity of information regarding Luft ground combat units in print for some reason...i would have thought an enterprising publisher would have noticed the gap in the market
If you will excuse me for a while, i have to digest the rest of Jacks fabulous site .
Thanks again for the help,

all the best,
Patrick.
