Default 5th Don Cossack Regiment Cross

A member asked me to post the recently offered Don Cossack cross on the E-stand.

I bought this very cross from a forum member on the estand, so did not have any concerns on its originality. The same type was pictured in Detlevs book and soldy by Kai Winkler.

So what do the experts say?

regards,
Stefan

Hello Pieter,

do you have a picture of the back of the cross in post 10?

Default 5th Don Cossack Badge

Stefan,

This is not the badge shown in Post #10 but it will be the same. These badges didn't have the "curly 9". The pins are made of steel.

Thanks for showing, I clearly see the differences. Is there only one manufacturer who made these crosses?

I think there probably was only one maker of this award (In Zargreb I believe). So although difficult to be sure, I think we have to assume there's no Variant or type 2 (as one dealer said to me). I think Stan's example is the only original Don Cossack Badge.

Best.....Peter

Thanks for the explaination. Is the "one firm theory" the only argument against my cross or does there exist a "proof" that this cross is a fake?

As said before, I bought this cross in this forum some time ago and noone had any doubts about it at that time. I need more precisely arguments to return the cross.

Stefan....this version of the Don Cossack badge you own was produced here in the UK in the mid 1970's as a copy reproduction, not a fake and according to Robin Lumsden, sold for £5 each. Unfortunately 30+ years later these are being recycled as originals.

Hope that helps....Peter

Peter,

Actually they were made a little bit earlier than that because I bought one from a UK dealer whose initials were "T.O" in the late 1960's for 10 Shillings. When I told him I thought it was a fake he admitted that it was.

Stan is quite correct, these were sold by T O as copys, he infact had them made. He produce a great number of different medals and badges. These in the main were used in the Film world. The only thing Stan you paid more, I think he sold me mine for five bob. But Stephan your badge is surly a T O Badge.
