Hi,

I find it interesting that one of the criteria of the gold wound badge is death, and yet we see relatively few Gold wound badges for sale. One would think if GWBs were given to the NOK that we would see literally hundreds of thousands of gold wound badges on the market.

Ideas/thoughts?

Hi Gary,

I agree with your thoughts...

I don't believe that the gold award given for death of a military or not military people, exceptions are some and perhaps in some short period maybe given.

Like elaborate heldendots that was given in mid war and after sometime stopped.

My understanding is that GWB's were not usually given if someone died outright in the line of duty, it was primarily for those who were incapacitated by severe injury. I have seen many incidents where GWBs were awarded postumously after an individual succomed to their incapacitating wounds.

My thought exactly. If every civilian injured during an air raid received a wound badge, there would be literally millions of wound badges all over the place.

Also, in regard to citations, while I dont collect them myself, I am aware that non military citations, i.e. police, fire service, R.A.D. ect are rare and much sought after by collectors, and I have NEVER seen a wound badge citation made out to a civilian.
