Default SS dagger and bayonet

Hi to all,

I’m not a weapon man and also not a SS collector.
That’s the reason I ask you! I have 2 questions:

-I would like to know the value of a very nice 1933 SS dagger with motto “Meine Ehre heißt Treue” on one side and the dedicace and signature of Himmler on the other. The piece looks very good but I don’t have it in my hands yet.

-How rare is a 98k bayonet with Waffen-SS motto? I would like to buy it but I don’t know if they did so at the time.
It’s a normal worn 98k bayonet with the motto “6. SS-Gebirgsjäger Division Nord”.
It is maybe unique a looks quite good. But I would like to know if it is an extremely rare piece or if it was sometimes done by SS soldiers.
I don’t have pics for the moment. The man wants 500 Euro, it is a good price? (The bayonet is worn and a little rusty, but not where the motto is). It’s still very nice.

Thanks a lot in advance for your help!!!

Cheers

Teka

Hi Teka, the SS dagger is a rare Himmler dedication version. Get some good clear photos of this before you consider buying it, and post them here. Fakes abound! Only a few thousand of these were issued. (Early estimates of 200 are now considered incorrect) Value will be several thousand dollars.

With regards to the "SS" bayonet, the chances of this being real are very, very slim. Most likely it is a fantasy item produced in the UK by one dealer in the 1970's. I remember them being for sale, any division you wanted!

Hope this helps you?
Cheers, Ade.

Wow,
thank you Adrian for your quick answer!
I also think that the motto on the "SS" bayonet can easily be faked.
Thank you for your help concerning the SS dagger. If I decide to buy it I'll post some photos (but it's for september). The dagger looks very good, but the motto could be fake. The value for a classical SS dagger in Germany is around 1400-1500 Euros. But with motto from Himmler...
I will open my eyes!
Best regards

I totally agree with Ade on the K98, these bayonets with etchings to 'SS' units are totally bogus... There Is only one thing to keep in mind... K98 service Issue bayonets were the property of the 'Reich' and to have your service side arm defaced in any way would have been against regulations... So If you ever see a K98 with any form of etching or engraving It would have been done post War... KS 98, parade baonets, on the other hand, are another matter... private purchase... You could embellish them as much as you liked, and that's what made them so popular... And popular with the post War fakers, so beware..

Knowing that the bayo is bad.... Please take care with the dagger...As other members have said, 'post pic's' before parting with any 'Wonga'

teka,

Sound advice from the earlier posts.

The Himmler - if it is correct - would likely be valued in the $6,000.00 - $10,000.00 US range. There are number of things to look for that will help determine authenticity, so if you get pictures, maybe we can be of further help.

Regarding the bayonet: The likelihood is that is a reproduction or altered piece. At that asking price, I would take the position that the deal is probably too good to be true.

Hope that helps,
