What Type Or Where To Buy Mannequin?
Hi guys,
We are finishing our basement this summer and I will have my office there when it's finished. I want to get some ideas on mannequins to use. What do you guys suggest for full body? Do I go with Webster or are their others that are more lifelike, poseable? What do you prefer? I need some opinions.
Gerard

The sky is the limit as to what is available if money is no object.

Thanks, but I don't need to go that crazy. For a normal budget, basically. I want to know if most use Webster mannequins, another type or just old store mannequins?

This is some good background information on things you should look for in any figure plus how to make improvements. The biggest problem is finding a figure that is built for the frame of people 60+ years ago as opposed to today. If you get a foam figure, you can easily sculpt it down to the proper size and pad it out with polyester.

Thanks guys. Gene, I want to do full mannequins though. How are the Webster full body mannequins to work with? Does anyone have them?

Hi Gerard,
Older store mannequins seem to be tough to find and the new ones available on ebay are mostly 6 foot+ tall, however I recently noticed some that are 5"8 inches tall and actually bought one the other day that comes with flexable arms.
I thought it was relatively cheap and worth checking out.
Here is the link http://cgi.ebay.com/Display-Mannequi...QQcmdZViewItem
I use the busts for identified uniforms and the mannequins to display combat uniforms with gear.
Good luck,
Tino

thats a great link Tino. a very good price and a great height for Our period uniforms. I am definitely going to check these out. I know some of you Guys are going to say "whatever" but in my opinion I think your crazy spending thouasands and thousands on the beautiful set ups you have and then display it on a mannequin that doesnt look real at all, or even worse are some of those mannequins that look like they came straight from a nightmarish peverted hell. if your not going to display a headless ensemble (and I dont think theres anything wrong with that style) then you need to spend a little more and contact Our good Friend NZMark. all you do is saw off the head of your Dude, mail it out, wait a few weeks and when you get it back you will be so amazed at the up close detail that the little bit you invested in the transaction wont even be a consideration any more. Hes that good at make overs. I know Im going to be sending Him another shortly. its definitely worth the money. it totally makes the difference in your displays. if you want a ton of reference pics just go to Marks thread on His collection and youll be blown away at His "gift". Glenn

I have a full 'Peter' Webster mannequin. The torso and head are nice, but the rest could really be drastically improved. The arms are just copper piping bent to shape w/ hands stuck into the ends and the legs are WAY to close together. It is nearly impossible to put pants on it w/ footwear. I'm very pleased w/ the craftsmanship in the the facial features though. Maybe you could try getting a half mannequin and building off of that? Have you seen anything that HWW Mannequins has to offer?
I know you already have the link, but Dorfman has some REALLY nice mannequins that are completely flawless. In my opinion I would actually save for one of theirs instead of buying something I will eventually possibly replace.

Try ebay. They have some full body ones for pretty cheap. They aren't museum quality but they will work good enough to put a uniform on.
