Default Award numbers of the Prussian Red Eagle Order

By request of Brian, here the award numbers of the RAO:

All this info comes from Dr.Peter Sauerwald, who published these numbers in the German OMM und OuE magazine.
No other German Order had so many different attachments. That’s why I list only the usual combinations. For more detailed info feel free to contact me.
Some of the numbers seems very high. But think about that this Order was awarded from 1810 to 1918, more than 100 years!

So, von Etzel's was a 2nd class Star with swords? 196

Lots of versions to collect here! Look at that 4th class with crown and swords, 46!!!

Do you have a site that shows all the versions?

I've got Schulze's site.

Is this the 3rd class with bow and swords on the ring?

Looking at Schulze's page it sure seems like it could be. Just has an extra ring...

Schulze say about the bow, "Basically it is the same like the bow for the third and the oak leaf for the 2nd, 1st and grand cross class. It is a sign for an already awarded lower grade of the order. Someone who was awarded the 2nd class with oak leaf, has been awarded with the 3rd class, someone who was awarded the 3rd class with bow has been awarded with a 4th class.

The special ribbon (two times black- and three times white striped) has been awarded only in combination with swords. It shows additionally to the bow, that the bearer has also been awarded with swords in a lower class. Somebody who was decorated twice for outstanding bravery in war service."

On Schulze's page he shows all kinds of eagles. None have tongues. Mine definitely has a very pronounced tongue.

Rangliste for von Etzel shows he won the 4th class.

Rangliste also shows RAO 3 Kl. mit Schwerten am Ringe.

Hi Brian,

dont worry for the tongue. I´ve seen with and without. Plenty of makers produced it.
Your 3rd class looks o.k., just that somebody added that funny swords and the bow.

Best regards

Daniel

Daniel,

Rangliste for von Etzel shows he won the 4th class.

Rangliste also shows RAO 3 Kl. mit Schwerten am Ringe.

The 'somebody' that added those things was von Etzel. Looking at the one on Schulze's site, his configuration looks a little weird. But, no one has ever messed with his stuff so this is the way it came down to us.
