The button is pebbled with a black coating--looks plastic, but it is not. Chinstrap is a composite (not leather):

Here is another coincidence between yours and mine--mine is also an Oskar Hertlein (they used the Esslingen coat of arms with an "H" in the middle), but with the more simple logo (I call yours the "florid" logo, which I believe was for an Extramutzen--mine would be a basic model):

When I posed this pic, the wife said, "don't you think you have too many of those red and blue ones? They all look the same."

Michael, this one isn't mine--but I do have a question about it. Do white-top DRB visors lack the red piping (as this one apparently does)?:

Hello Chris,
very nice collection I like many of your items ! I hope others too...
about your caps:
I don't have all my docs out of box but will try a fist id
- the first one is an "Königlich Preussische Eissenbahn verwaltung" visor cap (before WWI)
- second cap seems to have been manufactured between 1924 and 1928 but insignia don't match any reg known from me. Those are coherent with period (Weimar eagle), looks like Postal cap eagle (but not exact same) from period 1928-33. Not sure (and I don't believe) insignia is Railway. Maybee position of original insignia have been use to replace missing insignia. I will do some more researches ASAP
- I like the 1935-41 cap, very close to mine. Can you send me a clear pic (hi resolution) of the makers logo (w/o flash) for my archives ?
- your red cap : who is the maker ? can you post pics of the interior ?
(will answer you later about the white cap you posted)

Here is another view of the red-top interior. I am 100% sure that this was made by Hermann Naubert of Erfurt (vorm Karl Naubert)--"HNE"--I have compared it to others, and Naubert must have scored a large contract with the RBKK:

I was out-bid on this on ebay, however, it did not come with the top. If you were the winner of this one, could you contact me?

Chris,
Once again...another great thread that I probably would have skipped if you had not posted it. Thanks!
