Dresden: Tuesday, February 13, 1945 by Frederick Taylor - demonstrates the full horror of what can happen when all the the elements are in place for a "perfect" bombing attack. Explains the lack of proper air raid shelters, the war industry in Dresden, the fact that Flak had been pulled out for use at the front and how the combination of weather and experience of the lead marking bombers brought about the final result. Really made me understand the full extent of planning that went into a raid like this - certainly far from a bunch of bombers just dumping their bombs over a target.

ENIGMA - Robert Harris
A work of fiction set against the backdrop of actual events at wartime Bletchley Park and cryptanalysists working in Hut 8, responsible for decoding U-Boat Enigma transmissions. An excellent read.
Regards Richard.

I finished this book a little while ago and I'm wondering if anybody else aside from Jonathan has read it.
IMO it offers a very thorough yet all encompassing overview of the Luftwaffe. In fact I think it's one of the better accounts that I have read.

I just finnish :
WITH HITLER TO THE END , Memoirs of hitler's valet, Linge.
HE WAS MY CHIEF , Memoirs of AH Secretary , Christa Schroeder.
I WAS HITLER'S CHUFFEUR , memoirs of Erick Kempka.
and now reading,,
AT HITLER'S SIDE , memoirs of nicolaus von below.
Those looking for a work to either demonize or exculpate Hitler will be disappointed. There are numerous details and stories which serve to humanize Hitler, however, none of them are told in such a way that could be characterized as revisionist in the negative sense. (Things such as Hitler in his nightshirt changing a lightbulb by himself in his bedroom, or his problems with flatulence during the last years of his life.) Having said that the work does serve to humanize Hitler implicitly, although personally I feel that that is long overdue (Hess and especially Goebbels are also presented in a more positive light than is usually the case, while Bormann, Göring and the entire military leadership are seen as more flawed.)

Well, this isnt my type of book usually.....but im in the middle of
" HUNTING EVIL" by Guy Walters. He spends alot of time knocking Simon Weisenthal really. I was hoping for more detail about the afterlife of the Nazis who survived.
Before this I read " THE SECOND WORLD WAR" by John Keegan
which IMO was a great factual book, but was more based upon American outlook of the war which isnt always true IMO
Great thread By the way guys

Currently re-reading "Over the Top" by Arthur Guy Empey. My WW1 interest has re-intensified and really enjoying his account and experiences once again! Mike.
