Default Unusual H J Gefolgschafts Fahne

I Noticed This Unusual Flag On Ebay Back In The Days. Due To Its Odd Corner Patch, It Drew Little Attention. Since Aquiring The Flag, I Believe It Is For A Volksdeutsch Unit In The Former Yugoslavia. A Google Search Shows That A Town With That Name Existed During The War. Possibly, It Never Reached It's Intended Unit And Fell In To The Hands Of An American Serviceman At War's End. Any Information On This Piece And It's History Would Be Greatly Appreciated. Schmusi??

Always nice to see a very cool HJGF, and especially maybe
an AO version. Is the corner patch lettering done in satin

your posted photo. Just curious. Have you seen that Palestina
HJ eagle Bannfahnen? Now that has to be the best HJ flag
I've seen to date!

Hi Bob,

This flag would go well with the Croatian DJ membership pin I showed in another thread if we are talking about the same Adolfstal. It was a town/area in Bosnia which was part of the Independant State of Croatia from 1941. This would make it a flag for the Croatian DJ (Deutsche Jugend) unit in that town/area. I have only found limited info on the Croatian DJ so far but its organisation was essentially the same as that of the regular HJ. There were around 16,000 members organised into 4 Banne. There was also apparently a Stamm 'Zagreb' and a Stamm 'Mittelbosnien' (middle Bosnia). This was the structure:

Deutsches Jungvolk der Volksgruppe (D.J.V.) - 10 – 14 years

Deutsche Jugend (D.J.) - 14 – 18 years

Jungmädelbund (J.M.B.) - 10 – 14 years

Deutscher Mädelbund (D.M.B.) - 14 – 21 years

I don't know whether the Croatian Deutsche Jugend marked their unit flags in the same way as the HJ so I can't say whether it is normal for your flag to simply have the town's name rather than the more customary Gefolgschaft/Bann number as with HJ flags. The flag may well have had another purpose other than unit identification - perhaps a Gebiet flag. If I am interpreting you correctly OFW you said that in your post (HJGF?).

Perhaps this flag survived due to having been packed away and carried back into Germany by a family during the evacuation of the Volksdeutsche population out of Croatia in 1944/1945 and was eventually picked up by a GI (assuming of course that you found it on Ebay US).

I really hope that there isn't another Adolfstal somewhere in which case I've wasted your time - and mine

Hope this is of some use though anyway.

Schmusi-
We Are Talking About The Same Town. The Flag Was Brought From A Private Party As I Remember, Not A Collector Or Dealer. It Came Out Of U. S. Ebay. Somewhere, Among All Of My Still To Be Unacked Papers, I Have The Information I Got From The Seller. Your Theory Is Very Plausible. In Either Case, This Flag Survived By Never Leaving Or Getting To Western Europe. I Love These Conundrums. There Is Still So Much To Learn About A Period In Time And A Government That Was Just A Flash On The Calender Of The Ages

Ah excellent, it is the same Adolfstal. Yes, a conundrum indeed. Perhaps a flag ordered late-war whose delivery was overtaken by events? Give me 10 seconds and I'll probably come up with another one It would be interesting to see whether the seller's notes contain any further info. Either way it's a very nice and interesting flag.
