Neglected Flying Boat base.
On Saturday past I took our dog down to nearby Castle Archdale for a run around the site part of our walk took us along what was known as "Burma Road" an isloated roadway which looped away from the maintance apron following the shore line of a headland , the bomb dumps and munition shed all surrounded by blast shelters where located here.
Durring the war access was strictly controlled and regulated - the area being guarded on a 24hr basis.
Today the dumps are still there the blast walls being slowly reclaimed by nature , the nissan huts are gone and only the concrete bases remain along with occasional rusting peices of metal and broken drainage pipes.
The woodland teems with wildlife - if I walked 3 miles the dog ran 10 !
